Symposium Title:

De-escalation of Radiation in Low-Risk Breast Cancer: Emerging Long-Term Data on BCS + Intraoperative RFA and Feasibility of RT Reduction

This scientific symposium, featuring leading breast cancer surgeons, will highlight the latest clinical data on breast-conserving surgery (BCS) combined with post-lumpectomy radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and its impact on reducing the need for adjuvant radiation therapy (RT).

Recent evidence demonstrates that intraoperative RFA applied to the lumpectomy cavity can create an additional circumferential tumor-free margin, significantly decreasing close or positive margins and lowering re-excision rates. Emerging long-term data also suggest that, in carefully selected patient populations, BCS + RFA may maintain local control while reducing—or potentially eliminating—the need for whole-breast radiation.

The symposium will review updated outcomes data, comparative analyses with other intraoperative technologies such as cryoablation and IORT, and real-world case studies utilizing a next-generation RFA probe specifically engineered for optimized energy delivery within the lumpectomy cavity.

Why Attend

• Review emerging long-term clinical data on BCS + RFA
• Understand margin optimization with intraoperative RFA
• Evaluate feasibility of radiation de-escalation strategies
• Compare intraoperative technologies including cryoablation and IORT
• Engage with leading breast cancer surgeons

Moderator

Sheldon Feldman, MD, FACS

Chief, Division of Breast Surgery & Breast Surgical Oncology Director, Breast Cancer Services Professor of Surgery, Montefiore Einstein

Dr. Sheldon Feldman is a leading breast surgical oncologist with extensive experience in minimally invasive breast surgery, oncoplastic techniques, and intraoperative radiation therapy. He serves as Chief of Breast Surgery & Breast Surgical Oncology and Director of Breast Cancer Services at Montefiore Einstein, where he is also Professor of Surgery. A past President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Dr. Feldman is recognized for his commitment to advancing breast cancer care, surgical innovation, and patient-centered treatment.

Speakers

V. Suzanne Klimberg, MD, PhD, MSHCT, MAMSE

Adjunct Professor, Dept. of Surgery, Medical Director of UTMB Cancer Center, Adjunct Professor, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston

Dr. V. Suzanne Klimberg has 27 years of experience in breast surgical oncology. She has pioneered innovative breast cancer treatment methods, authored over 245 publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited 10 books and holds 8 patents, and has held over 25 editorial board positions for surgical journals and publications. Additionally, Dr. Klimberg has won over 75 awards in teaching, research, and surgery, and is the past president of three major American surgical organizations.

Jill Dietz, MD, MHCM, FACS

Dr. Dietz currently serves as the past President and Chairman of the Board of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She co-leads Global Breast Hub and advises Breast Global—both committed to addressing disparities in breast cancer care globally.

Her clinical and research interests include oncoplastic surgery, value-based care, patient-centered surgical techniques, and innovations in breast cancer care delivery.

Don’t Miss This Opportunity

Be part of an important discussion shaping the future of breast cancer treatment. Learn from experts, examine new clinical data, and explore the potential of intraoperative ablation techniques in reducing the need for radiation in low-risk cases.

This symposium/program is supported by Innoblative Designs through a marketing grant. It is not part of the official American Society of Breast Surgeons annual meeting program, and no AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ have been assigned to them by the ASBrS.
